Obituary For Dorothy Green
Deaconess Dorothy Louise Hampton Green was born in Orange Springs, Florida on April 26, 1928. She was the second of two children born to the late Reuben and the late Pearl Wiggins Hampton. She peacefully accepted the will of God on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Magnolia Ridge Rehabilitation Center in Gainesville, Florida.
Deaconess Green started her Christian walk at an early age at the Cornelious Baptist Church in Orange Springs, Florida. After finishing college and getting married, she moved to Tampa and joined The Greater Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where she worked with the Deaconess Ministry as well as other ministries. Upon the passing of her husband, Deaconess Green returned in 2004 to the family home in Orange Springs. She later joined under watchcare ministry with Dr. Clarence Woods and the Trinity United Missionary Baptist Church. At Trinity, she actively participated in the Sunday School, Deaconess and Mission ministries prior to her illness. In addition, Deaconess Green stayed busy working with the First Baptist Church in Orange Springs, FL and volunteering with numerous service organizations in Marion, Putnam and Alachua counties.
Her educational experience first began with the Orange Creek School where she walked 2-3 miles one way to school. After that, she spent two years at Shell High School in Hawthorne, FL and then four years at Central Academy High School in Palatka, Florida where she graduated as salutatorian of her Class of 1947. Then in 1951, she obtained her postsecondary degree from her beloved FAMU (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University) in Tallahassee, Florida.
While at college at FAMU, Deaconess Green met and fell in love with James Bady Green. They were married on June 16, 1961.
Deaconess Green worked at the following companies in the Tampa and St. Petersburg area: Honeywell (Defense industry), Westinghouse Electric Corporation (Nuclear Industry Division) and the Florida Division of the American Cancer Society.
She now resides in Heaven with her husband, James Bady Green, her parents, Rueben and Pearl Hampton, her brother, Charles E. Hampton, Sr. and other loved ones. She will truly be missed by those who knew and loved her. She had many great accomplishments in life but none greater than the love she shared with family, friends and others.
